In a clash of lamination the realisation dawned upon them
"Oh Lord", they clamoured, "why us?"
And such was the word henceforth, "why me"
Reconciled with their deep conviction that, surely
Someone else should stand out
Another to lead the crowd
Astray, away, or even in the right direction

Signalling in exasperation
Grovelling in desperation
(Maybe a new idea for a TV station…)
"Why should it have to be me?"
And they added a second rule for the consortium

Falling out of grace with the word
Inebriated yet dedicated
Stumbling gracelessly, falling

Dickens' books come to fruition
Boredom crowned the peak of desire
An arousing carousel of carousing
Scavenging every bit of lack of excitement

"Please don't make me stand out
Why me? What have I done to deserve this?"

Petty men leading a petty life, striving to remain petty
